Some frequently asked questions

What about micro plastics and nano plastics?

We believe that, before one can effectively clean debris from the oceans, the leakage of waste must be stopped in the first place—in other words, the tap must be turned off. Therefore, our primary focus is ocean-bound plastic waste—materials that have not been landfilled and are prone to enter waterways.

Does it help to remove only some types of plastic?

We have signed a partnership with Plastic Bank, which primarily collects the following post-consumer waste: HDPE (milk containers, detergent containers, base cups for plastic soda bottles), LDPE (plastic bags, bubble wrap), PET (plastic beverage containers, polyester textiles), and PP (battery casings, dairy product containers). You can check out their website for more information.

What happens to the recovered plastic?

Our partner, Plastic Bank, recycles the collected plastic into so-called social plastic, which is then used to create products that support environmental awareness. You can check out their website to read more.

Unfortunately not. But there are many other organizations that accept donations. Like the OceanCleanUp.

How much plastic does one tab recover?

On average every 17 tabs, one ocean-bound plastic bottle can be recovered.

Why are you doing this?

The problem of plastic pollution is not getting better. Every year, our plastic production grows by 3%. At present, there are no effective ways of keeping plastic out of the ocean.

Can I generate tabs with bots?

Bot traffic is bad for OceanHero. We generate revenue only from real users who click relevant ads that ensure positive results for our advertisers. All other traffic, and ad clicks don't generate any revenue. In fact, they only create costs for OceanHero, reducing the amount of money that we can spend on plastic collection. Consequently, we monitor our traffic and quality indicators daily and implement measures, as needed, in order to prevent harmful traffic. So, in a nutshell, normal usage is the best for OceanHero.
